U.S. Iraq war veteran gets his skull stomped on by police horse during peaceful protest

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

In the latest shining example of how our government treats our war veterans. An Iraq war veteran, Nick Morgan, was part of a peaceful protest in Nassau county, New York on the night of October 15th, 2008. Mounted police charged the crowd of U.S. war veterans with horses and knocked Morgan to the ground and then the horse stomped his skull shattering 3 orbital bones and knocking him unconscious. He was then dragged to the police van and tossed in and arrested. He is now being charged with disorderly conduct.

A ‘Constitution free’ zone on the U.S. borders???

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

From the WTF department, the story from Rawstory.com and the ACLU are divulging disturbing new details of a “Constitution free” zone that starts at our country’s border and extends 100 miles in all around the country. Look at the map below:

What is the “Constitution Free zone”? Well according to the article:

The ACLU says a “Constitution-free zone” exists within 100 miles of the US border, where DHS claims the authority to stop, search and detain anyone for any reason. Nearly two-thirds of the US population lives within 100 miles of the border, according to the ACLU, and the border zone encompasses scores of major metropolitan areas and even entire states.

So what kinds of things happen in “The zone”?

Wednesday’s event also featured a video testimonial from Vince Peppard, another San Diegoan who faced trouble from border agents. Peppard said he was stopped at least 20 miles inside the border on a return trip from Mexico. He refused to open his trunk “on a matter of principle” and was detained for about 30 minutes.

“I didn’t feel like I was in the United States,” he says. “I felt like I was in some kind of police state.”

Alarming information from the various media outlets are becoming more frequent and overt the closer Bush is to the end of his second presidential term. I can’t help but to ask myself “Is this feeling in my gut what consciencious german citizens felt when they witnessed the birth of the 3rd Reich?”.

Wired computer keyboards are unsecure?

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

According to the Money.co.uk, wired computer keyboard entry can be decyphered and translated in realtime using radio technology. From the article:

Researchers from the Security and Cryptography Laboratory in Lausanne, Switzerland, have discovered that by using a simple radio antenna it is possible to remotely identify the key strokes entered into a wired computer keyboard from a distance of up to 20 meters away.

Martin Vuagnoux and Sylvain Pasini, doctoral students at EPFL, are the brains behind the research. They discovered that by analysing the electromagnetic waves produced by individual keystrokes it was possible to interpret exactly what was being typed in real time.

Now I’m waiting to see how long it takes for some wise guy to design a government grade “stealth” keyboard.

Protester attempts to actually arrest Karl Rove!

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

From the SFgate:

An anti-war protester confronted former Bush administration aide Karl Rove while he spoke at a San Francisco mortgage bankers’ meeting, attempting to handcuff him in what she called a citizen’s arrest for “treason.”

A statement by the group Code Pink identified the woman as 58-year-old Janine Boneparth. As Boneparth confronted him, another Code Pink member told the audience that Rove was involved in lying about the Iraq war.

The whole seminar was marred by several outbusrts from protesters but the highlight of the night was the exchange between Mr. Rove and George Mitchell (at the end of the video). I was rolling on the floor in laughter. What a great night of comedy courtesy of the GOP. Keep it up guys! Great material…

Introducing… the Taser SHOCKWAVE!

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Just in time for possible collapse and upcoming unstable times, the Taser shockwave. Tired of shocking criminals one at a time? Well with the latest technological breakthrough, the powers that be can now Taser dozens, even hundreds of miscreants simultaneously with the next generation in Taser technology! From the Taser website:

With the push of a button at a stand-off distance of up to 100 meter, the Shockwave unit deploys multiple standard TASER cartridges that are oriented across an area arc. Full area coverage is provided to instantaneously incapacitate multiple personnel within that region.

The Shockwave system is designed to be fully modular, allowing the end user complete flexibility to deploy as needed to achieve the desired objective. Multiple Shockwave units can be stacked together (like building blocks) either horizontally or vertically in order to extend area coverage or vertically to allow for multiple salvo engagements. Configurations can be tailored to yield a scaleable defense in depth with overlapping fields of fire when target opportunities may be layers deep or risk profiles dictate multiple event possibilities.

To continue the theme of modularity, Shockwave units may also be vehicle mounted or daisy-chained. With up to 12 separate units per control box, the Shockwave system allows for an optimized response to any situation, independent of specific terrain, emplacements, obstacles, or threat profiles.

There’s even a cool promo video!!!

Russia is attempting to form an ‘Anti U.S. alliance’

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

The president of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev has called on the powers of Europe to form a new alliance that is not based on the United States as the fulcrum of western politics and finance. From the Telegraph:

In a speech delivered to European leaders at a conference hosted by President Nicolas Sarkozy of France to discuss the international financial crisis, Mr Medvedev sought to show that the United States was at the root of all the world’s problems.

He blamed Washington’s “economic egotism” for the world’s financial woes and then accused the Bush administration of taking Europe to the brink of a new cold war by pursuing a deliberately divisive foreign policy. He also maintained that the United States was once again trying to return to a policy of containing Russia.

Are we escalating to a new cold war with Russia? We are stretched on as many fronts as we can go currently, it may not be in America’s best interest to continue to make enemies when we are on the verge of bankrupting our nation due to many factors, one of them being the backbreaking cost of defense and occupation of several parts of the world.

Personally, I don’t see this really accomplishing anything on behalf of Russia. This seems to be a series of political postures on Medvedev’s part but nevertheless, it looks as though the “smaller fish” are starting to pick and jab at the “big fish” of the pond.

The U.S. dollar is being abandoned?

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

In the latest catastrophic economic news (most of this is not even being touched by the mainstream media in the U.S.), Brazil and Argentina is now abandoning the US dollar as the preferred trading currency From Presstv.ir.

Brazil and Argentina have launched a new payment system in their bilateral trade, doing away with the US dollar as a medium of exchange.

With OPEC nations possibly following suit, this could be the death knell for the burgeoning U.S. currency. From the Telegraph:

The Saudi central bank said today that it would take “appropriate measures” to halt huge capital inflows into the country, but analysts say this policy is unsustainable and will inevitably lead to the collapse of the dollar peg.

As a close ally of the US, Riyadh has so far tried to stick to the peg, but the link is now destabilising its own economy.

The Fed’s dramatic half point cut to 4.75pc yesterday has already caused a plunge in the world dollar index to a fifteen year low, touching with weakest level ever against the mighty euro at just under $1.40.

There is now a growing danger that global investors will start to shun the US bond markets. The latest US government data on foreign holdings released this week show a collapse in purchases of US bonds from $97bn to just $19bn in July, with outright net sales of US Treasuries.

The danger is that this could now accelerate as the yield gap between the United States and the rest of the world narrows rapidly, leaving America starved of foreign capital flows needed to cover its current account deficit – expected to reach $850bn this year, or 6.5pc of GDP.

This could be crack that breaks the dam wide open and plunges the dollar to almost worthless levels. Lets hope that things improve soon. I don’t look forward to the idea of hauling a wheelbarrow of cash to the grocery store to buy a loaf of bread…
