FUCK YOU I won’t do what you tell me!

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

It seems as if there is some anti mass media initiatives succeeding in Britain. This could be a backlash to the endemic surveillance and the “big Brother” type atmosphere in the UK.  The Facebook campaign started a backlash against the mass media driven choices for entertainment.

From the article:

Rage Against The Machine have sensationally outsold X Factor winner Joe McElderry to take the Christmas number one!

Thanks to a Facebook led campaign, the Los Angeles band’s 1992 anthem ‘Killing In The Name’ has secured the Yuletide top spot after shifting 502,000 downloads, according to the Official Charts Company.

McElderry has had to settle for second place with ‘The Climb’ selling 450,000 copies. This marks the first time in five years an X Factor winner hasn’t claimed the Christmas number one.

Better still, not only is Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name’ number one, it has also achieved two new chart records.

Firstly it has notched up the biggest one-week download sales total in British chart history and it has also become the first ever download only Christmas number one in the UK.

Merry Christmas Rage!

RATM playing across from the RNC… what could go wrong?

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

The rebel rock group Rage against the Machine are playing on September 3rd (the same time as the Republican National Convention) in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Target Center. If their last co-liner with a political convention is any sign of things to come, this ought to be a intense night. From the VH1 article:

De la Rocha recently called for President Bush to be “tried for being a war criminal,” and during the band’s Lolla set, he raged against the last eight years of Republican rule and even had a word of warning for “Brother Obama,” referring to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama.

“Now, we know Brother Obama. … But I tell you what, if he comes to power come November and he doesn’t start pulling troops out of Afghanistan, I know a lot of people who are gonna stand up and burn down every office of every Senate.”

Nas goes off on Fox News

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Hip hop badass Nas has a new track called Sly Fox. Nas has been quoted recently (responding to Jesse Jackson) in an interview with MTV:

“I think Jesse Jackson’s the biggest player hater. His time is up. All you old niggas’ time is up. We heard your voice, we saw your marching, we heard your sermons. We don’t want to hear that shit no more. It’s a new day. It’s a new voice. I’m here now. We don’t need Jesse; I’m here. I got this. We got Barack. We got David Banners and Young Jeezys. We the voice now. It’s no more Jesse. Sorry. Good bye. You ain’t helping nobody in the hood and that’s the bottom line. Goodbye, Jesse. Bye!”

I almost like it as much as the new KRS remix of criminal minded.
