Can you Digg it?

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

google walk offSurprisingly, it seems like the Google and Digg merger is abruptly over. Inside sources say it was the “personality mismatch” and walked away from the table leaving Digg with no deal.

From Techcrunch:

“Two sources close to the companies suggested that some issue that came up during technical due diligence was to blame. One source said that the issue was more personality driven, and that Google decided after spending more time with Digg’s top team that there just wasn’t a fit.

Either way the deal appears to dead and can be added to the long list of failed Digg acquisition deals. And when a company is “left at the altar” other buyers are usually hesitant to step in.”

Accusations of censoring and questionable behavior have plagued Digg.com as of late.

Nepotism in action!

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Most everyone at some point has been employed at a company where some undeserving relative has been hired on and is “less than effective” at his or her job functions. This article from the DailyWTF? is a painful tale of one such ordeal. I do not know how accurate or true this yarn is but I’ve experienced situations like this personally and if anything, its a good read.

Its a story about Simon, a developer that is leaving his tech company for greener pastures elsewhere. Hes kind enough to spend time interviewing and training his replacement. Well, I will just let you read the rest…

Macbook touch out this October?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

apple tablet PC

MacDailyNews is circulating a rumor that apple will release a touch based tablet this October.

“Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured Multi-Touch. Gesture library. Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion’s haptic tech. Slot-loading SuperDrive. Accelerometer. GPS. Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at “low” price that will reduce margins. Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will. This is some sick shit. App Store-compatible, able to run Mac apps, too. By October at the latest.”

line for iphone in manhatten

Looks like iphone mania is sweeping the world! Evidentaly, the overwhelming purchases of the new 3G iphone tied up the itunes activation servers when too many people tried to connect.

From reuters:

“Activation problems marred the U.S. launch of the new iPhone on Friday, with many eager buyers leaving stores frustrated that they could not use the hotly anticipated gadget after waiting in line for hours.AT&T Inc, the sole U.S. carrier for the iPhone, blamed problems synchronizing the phone with Apple’s iTunes online music and software store, saying it was probably caused by too many people trying to access iTunes at the same time.”

I guess the venerable Steve Ballmer (Microsoft CEO) was wrong again when he was quoted as saying:

“There’s no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. No chance.”
