Sign petition to keep wall street bailout debts off our plates!

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Much like the Patriot act, one of the most unjust and and insidious pieces of legislation is about to get railroaded through congress right under the noses of the American people. The proposed Wall Street bailout tailored by Treasury secretary Henry Paulson and the Bush administration is good for “Wall Street” but devastating for “Main Street”.

In the latest Rasmussen poll, only 7% of the America supports a bailout of Wall Street, and when there are already financial experts and professors stating that this bailout is unnecessary, this attempted robbery of the American people cannot go unchecked. Please sign the petition over at Public Citizen. Take 3 minutes out of your day to have your voice heard.

If this bailout act passes it is tantamount to making almost every American citizen a slave. Here’s an idea… Why don’t we try what Sweden did in the early 1990s to save their insolvent banking system?

MSNBC Censors a live press conference

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Again, we run into this situation where the truth seems to dig up from the ground despite the best efforts of the mass media outlets. This time the “truth” struck a live press conference with Condoleezza Rice when a reporter makes a comparison to the U.S. reaction to 9/11 to Russia’s reaction in response to Georgian attacks–the live satellite feed “mysteriously” drops off in the middle of his question/comment. The corporate controlled media outlets are getting more brazen and open with censorship (wow has our country changed!). Just in case you didn’t hear about or see this, the movie is posted below.

‘Real’ coverage of the RNC

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Tired of the same old wearisome unimportant “news”? Wondering about the peculiar lack of coverage of the Republican National Convention? Well fear no more. Get “real news” from the Coldsnap twitter feed. Its real time commentary of the Coldsnap legal team on the ground in St. Paul. There are some interesting tidbits being posted on the twitter feed such as:

Female individual snatched off street by unmarked car on 6th & Wacouta 02:12 PM September 01, 2008 from web

Rage Against the Machine just took 200 people on unpermitted march toward river. They are chanting, “Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me.” about 6 hours ago from web

Report from prisoner: had been pepper sprayed all over her body, was not allowed to wash it off, now has first degree burns. about 5 hours ago from web

If the Twitter feeds are indeed accurate, theres some nazi germany tactics going on in St. Paul. This is MOST certainly stuff you won’t hear coming from the spoon fed corporate media outlets.

RATM playing across from the RNC… what could go wrong?

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

The rebel rock group Rage against the Machine are playing on September 3rd (the same time as the Republican National Convention) in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Target Center. If their last co-liner with a political convention is any sign of things to come, this ought to be a intense night. From the VH1 article:

De la Rocha recently called for President Bush to be “tried for being a war criminal,” and during the band’s Lolla set, he raged against the last eight years of Republican rule and even had a word of warning for “Brother Obama,” referring to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama.

“Now, we know Brother Obama. … But I tell you what, if he comes to power come November and he doesn’t start pulling troops out of Afghanistan, I know a lot of people who are gonna stand up and burn down every office of every Senate.”

The FBI wants more powers to ‘investigate’ people without any basis

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

It seems as though the Bush administration is trying to ram as many facist “laws” down our throats as they can before the next president is in office.

From The New York TImes:

A Justice Department plan would loosen restrictions on the Federal Bureau of Investigation to allow agents to open a national security or criminal investigation against someone without any clear basis for suspicion, Democratic lawmakers briefed on the details said Wednesday.

Is it just me or are you tired of the government’s attempt to “Protect us” too?

Montana governer defies homeland security and Real ID

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

According to NukeSylo13, the governer of Montana is actually doing his job by upholding the constitution. Even is if means defying the department of Homeland security and the controversial Read ID act. An excerpt from the article:

Brian Schweitzer, the governor of Montana, wrote a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. The letter informed Chertoff that Montana would not be complying with the REAL ID Act. Our quote of the day supplies one of the reasons for Governor Schweitzer’s rebellion. In response to the letter . . .

Secretary Chertoff called Governor Schweitzer and threatened him. Chertoff told Schweitzer that Montana residents would be banned from airplanes, or subjected to severe, time-consuming inspections at airports.

The Governor countered with his own threat, “How about we both go on 60 Minutes a few days after the DHS starts patting down Montana driver’s license-holders who are trying to get on the planes and both of us can tell our side of the story.”

Rogue pastor is “on the run” in China

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Eddie Romero, a pastor from the United States filmed himself in upscale hotel rooms Beijing paintings protests on the walls and vandalizing the room. From AP:

On Tuesday, in a sometimes unsteady hand – he had to teach himself how to paint – the California-based pastor splashed the walls of his two hotel rooms with demands for the release of five Chinese activists. He slashed pillows and staged mock killings with stuffed people propped on the bed, red paint spattered like blood on the headboard.

“One down,” Romero whispers, looking into the video camera. Bespectacled and gray-haired, he holds up a finger in his transformed Novotel Peace Hotel room. “One down.”

Romero, who appears to be alone, tells the camera he doesn’t want to disrupt the games. He talks about religious freedom for groups that remain highly sensitive with the Chinese government – Tibetan Buddhists, Uighur Muslims, the Falun Gong spiritual movement.

“Freedom’s a scary thing for them, and by them I mean the Chinese communists,” he says.

Voters are ‘rejecting’ electronic machines

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

On the positive front, it seems that this upcoming presidential election–the number of american voters using paper ballots will be more than in any other election in U.S. history. From Yahoo news:

That wasn’t supposed to happen. If everything had gone according to the government’s $3 billion plan to upgrade voting technology after the hanging-chad fiasco in Florida in 2000, that sentence would read “electronic machines” instead of paper. Instead, thousands of touchscreen devices are collecting dust in warehouses from California to Florida, where officials worried about hackers and fed up with technical glitches have replaced the equipment with scanners that will read paper ballots.

The controversial history of the diebold voting machines are well publicized and seems to have “lost the trust” of the american populace. For those of you who feel the need to hack into the diebold machines, here’s an illustrated cheat sheet you can print out for endless hours of knee slappin’ fun!

NYC cop demolishes an innocent bike rider

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

During the critical mass bike ride on the night of July 25th in Times square, a rookie New York City Police officer named Patrick Pogan launched an innocent bike rider (Christopher Long) off of his bicycle and into the concrete sidewalk, then arrested the rider for “Attempted 3rd degree assault”. Luckily it was all caught on tape and the officer has been stripped of his badge pending the investigation of the incident.

The Smoking Gun has the “fantastical” police report that the officer fabricated of the events. I personally do not see what the NYC police has against the Critical Mass bike rides but this isnt the first time NYC police have assaulted the critical mass bike riders. Maybe it disrupts traffic? Hippies are easy to beat up? Not sure what the motivation is here…

Nas goes off on Fox News

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Hip hop badass Nas has a new track called Sly Fox. Nas has been quoted recently (responding to Jesse Jackson) in an interview with MTV:

“I think Jesse Jackson’s the biggest player hater. His time is up. All you old niggas’ time is up. We heard your voice, we saw your marching, we heard your sermons. We don’t want to hear that shit no more. It’s a new day. It’s a new voice. I’m here now. We don’t need Jesse; I’m here. I got this. We got Barack. We got David Banners and Young Jeezys. We the voice now. It’s no more Jesse. Sorry. Good bye. You ain’t helping nobody in the hood and that’s the bottom line. Goodbye, Jesse. Bye!”

I almost like it as much as the new KRS remix of criminal minded.
