U.S. is silent on mass prison protest in Afghanistan

Monday, July 20th, 2009

bagram.650

In another news story out of Afghanistan, which the corporate controlled mass media is again failing to report (and you wonder why traditional news outlets are dying?), There is evidently a mass protest going on in the largest prison in Afghanistan. From the Sydney Morning Herald article:

The prisoners are refusing to leave their cells, but they are not engaging in hunger strikes or violence. Ramzi Kassem, a lawyer for a Yemeni held at Bagram, said prisoners are protesting being held indefinitely without trial or legal recourse. The US military declined to comment.

Unlike Guantanamo Bay, where prisoners have access to lawyers, the 620 prisoners at Bagram are not allowed to visit their lawyers. Afghan Government representatives are generally not allowed to visit or inspect the prison.

In April the justice department appealed a U.S. judge’s decision that the prisoners at Bagram had the same Habeas Corpus rights that the prisoners at Guantanamo had. I’m not saying we should coddle the “terrorists” but they are human beings and a civilization is judged by how it treats its prisoners. If they are in fact guilty of crimes put them on trial. Holding someone indefinitely is unjust by any standards.

Deceased PM Bhutto assassinated by Cheney’s hit squad?

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

bhutto benazir

In an explosive accusation out of Russia Today, a correspondent in Washington D.C. has claimed that after speaking to several intelligence officials in the U.S., that former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated while exposing herself to supporters in December 2007, was a possible target of Dick Cheney’s personal “hit squad”?!?! Quoted from the article:

On Wednesday, Washington-based investigative journalist Wayne Madsen quoted US intelligence officials as making ‘prominent’ references to Bhutto as a probable target of the program.

“I spoke to several US intelligence officials who were telling me that this assassination team may have targeted politicians in other countries,” Madsen told Russia Today.

“One name mentioned prominently was former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who may have been a victim of this particular program.”

This new unspecified CIA program, which was hidden from Congress for 8 years, sounds like the resurrection of the Phoenix program from the Viet Nam war era. The Phoenix program was a U.S. government sanctioned covert effort in which elite military units working in conjunction with the CIA and a host of other intelligence agencies carried out assassinations and kidnappings targeting the neutralization of enemy leaders, infrastructure and informants.

I am reticent to publish anything on this blog without independent verification but the allegations are potentially catastrophic to the Bush administration, and they are just that, allegations. Having not fully comprehended the impact of  this pontification if this were ever reported in the mainstream press here in the U.S.– regardless, the insinuation is enough to be the “tipping point” that may get Cheney and friends prosecuted if this turns out to be factual.

Surely, the next stage of arguments will be that this program “kept America safe”, that is if the U.S. mass meddia ever reports the issue…

Jesse Ventura verbally piledrives Dick Cheney!

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

In an entertaining interview with Larry King on CNN, former Minnesota Governor Jesse “the Body” Ventura lets his opinions fly about the former villainous Vice president of the United States Dick “Shotgun” Cheney.

KING: A lot of things to go into, Jesse. What do you make of the Cheney/Limbaugh?

VENTURA: I don’t have a lot of respect for Dick Cheney. Here’s a guy who got five deferments from the Vietnam War. Clearly, he’s a coward. He wouldn’t go when it was his time to go. And now he is a chicken hawk. Now he is this big tough guy who wants this hardcore policy. And he’s the guy that sanctioned all this torture by calling it enhanced interrogation.

KING: Do you think Rush Limbaugh’s a better Republican than Colin Powell?

VENTURA: No, not at all. In fact, if you compare the two, let’s look at Colin Powell, who’s a war hero, who strapped it on for his country, and didn’t run and hide.

KING: Twice.

VENTURA: And then you look at Dick Cheney who ran and hid. I have no respect for Dick Cheney. I have tremendous respect for General Powell.

I wonder how talking head Neocons like Ann Coulter will respond. Not only was he a badass Navy SEAL in Vietnam, he was a professional wrestler as well. I guess that rules out the “far left liberal wussy” card… On another note, Mr. Ventura puts his money where his mouth is because he no longer lives in the United States and apparently now resides in Mexico. Ventura for President!

Heres the video clip from the Larry King show just in case you missed it…

China develops a super weapon that can sink U.S. carriers?

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

The United States Naval Institute is reporting that the Chinese military has an operational anti ship ballistic missile (ABSM) system that can sink a U.S. aircraft carrier with one strike. It supposedly has a 2000 kilometer range and flies at speeds of Mach 10!

From the article:

The size of the missile enables it to carry a warhead big enough to inflict significant damage on a large vessel, providing the Chinese the capability of destroying a U.S. supercarrier in one strike.

Because the missile employs a complex guidance system, low radar signature and a maneuverability that makes its flight path unpredictable, the odds that it can evade tracking systems to reach its target are increased. It is estimated that the missile can travel at mach 10 and reach its maximum range of 2000km in less than 12 minutes.

Supporting the missile is a network of satellites, radar and unmanned aerial vehicles that can locate U.S. ships and then guide the weapon, enabling it to hit moving targets.

What is even more troubling is that according to the article there is no reliable defense systems on ships that deter ballistic missiles.

I can’t help but to wonder that while China stresses engineering and mathematics in their school systems while the U.S. wallows in beer bong fraternities and M TV spring break. Was this disconcerting news ever in doubt?

blackwater

From the AP article:

Erik Prince, the founder of the beleaguered Blackwater security company, announced Monday he has stepped aside as the company’s chief executive officer.

Prince said he has appointed a new president and a new CEO. The management shake up, he said, was part of the company’s “continued reorganization and self-improvement.”

For those of you who don’t know, Blackwater USA/International/Xe is a private security contractor that was heavily used by the Bush administration in Iraq and other unconstitutional actions like “policing” American citizens during the aftermath of Katrina. They have been embroiled in controversy after allegedly slaughtering dozens of civilians in Iraq and have since had their license to operate revoked by the Iraqi government.

What happens when your “brand” is ruined? Just rename yourself. Blackwater is now known as Xe (pronounced as “z”). So the next time you hear of a mass of civilians from a third world country getting massacred by a group of mercenaries from a “new” group named Xe, then just know that its Blackwater.

Wikileaks cracks Pentagon’s encryption key for Afghanistan operations

Friday, February 27th, 2009

map-of-afghanistan-af

In a recent events, the controversial site Wikileaks.org, has managed to crack the encryption key to multiple documents related to the U.S. led war in Afghanistan. The documents dated October 6th, detail the “official” story that NATO members are to tell the press when asked about operations in the Afghan region.

In response, the Pentagon has taken the website offline completely. The password is progress and among several revelations, it mentioned the country of Jordan, still being a member of the coalition even though it officially pulled out of the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) in 2001.

Check out the wikileak post to read on the other minor tidbits of information. Although, not a big deal in the whole scope of things, still an interesting read if your into the geopolitical goings on in the world, not to mention its fun to poke at the government a bit…

List of “W’s” failures

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

1188096596016

Publicintegrity.org was kind enough to compile the mostly complete list of failures of the Bush Administration during these last 8 miserable years. Of course some of the “failures” can be disputed but most of them are verified and abject failures in policy and outright inaction. See whe whole list here.

Of course listed here are mostly policy failures, this isn’t taking into account the other statistics like the skyrocketing deficit, the fact that “W” has taken more vacation than any other president in history and the fact that under Bush’s watch, over 200 years of representative democracy has been transformed into to a quasi facist state that no longer follows free market principals.

You’re doing a hella of a job W! Good riddance!

Pakistan doesn’t give a Damn!

Monday, September 15th, 2008

With the impeachment of Pervez Musharif followed by the recent regime change in Pakistan, there has been a stark reversal in policy with regard to the Bush Adminstration’s “war against terror”. First off, according to the Times of India–  the F-16 fighter jets we have given to the Pakistani air force may possibly be used to shoot down multi million dollar american predator drones. From the article:
